The apparition of my youthful body,
since nine when I first turned up the lamp,
has come and found me and reminded me
of shuttered perfumed rooms
and of pleasure spent—what wanton pleasure!

Dela ora nouă, de când am aprins lampa,

umbra trupului meu tânăr

a început să mă bântuie, să-mi amitească
de parfumul încăperilor închise,

de plăceri sensuale din trecut – ce plăceri îndrăzneţe!

Return often and take me at night,
when the lips and the skin remember….
Revino adesea şi ia-mă la miezul nopţii,
când buzele şi pielea işi amintesc…

Poetry in Translation (CCCLII), Constantine P. CAVAFY (1863-1933), EGYPT / GREECE: “Ionian Song”, “Cântec Ionic”

August 23rd, 2015 · Comments Off on Poetry in Translation (CCCLII), Constantine P. CAVAFY (1863-1933), EGYPT / GREECE: “Ionian Song”, “Cântec Ionic” · Books, Diaspora, Famous People, PEOPLE, Poetry, quotations, Translations, Uncategorized

Constantine P. CAVAFY : Ionian Song, Cântec Ionic,
Just because we have broken their statues,
just because we have driven them out of their temples,
the gods did not die because of this at all.
Doar pentru că le-am distrus statuile,
Doar pentru că le-am aruncat afară din templul lor,
Zeii nu au murit din pricina asta…

Poetry in Translation, (CCLXXXVII) Odysseus ELYTIS (1911-1996), CIPRU/GRECIA: “Sorbind soarele Corintului”, “Drinking the sun of Corinth”

May 5th, 2014 · No Comments · Books, International Media, PEOPLE, Poetry, quotations, Translations

Odysseus ELYTIS
(n. Cipru, 1911 – m. Grecia, 1996)
Sorbind soarele Corintului
Sorbind soarele Corintului,
Descifrând marmura ruinelor,
Străbătând viile şi mările,
Observând cu harponul,
Peştele votiv care îmi scapă,
Am aflat paginile scrise în psalmul soarelui,
Câmpul viu de bucuria pasiunii unei deschideri.

Beau apa, tai fructul,
Pun mâna în frunzişul vântului.
Lămâii umezesc polenul verii,
Păsările verzi îmi destramă visurile,
Mă îndepărtez într-o clipă,
Iscodind îndelung universul nou născut,
Minunat dela cap până la bătaia inimii.

Singur pe lume
Yiannis RITSOS, (1909-1990)

Ştiu că fiecare dintre noi este singur în dragoste,
Singur în faţa Soartei şi a Morţii.
Eu o ştiu. Am încercat-o. Nu ajută la nimic.
Lasă-mă, dar, să vin cu tine!

George Seferis

Coals in the fog
were roses rooted in your heart
and the ashes covered your face
each morning.
Plucking cypress shadows
You left a summer ago.

Poetry in Translation (CCV): Giorgos SEFERIS (1900 – 1971), GREECE, “Just a little more ”, “Un pic mai mult”

August 12th, 2013 · Comments Off on Poetry in Translation (CCV): Giorgos SEFERIS (1900 – 1971), GREECE, “Just a little more ”, “Un pic mai mult” · International Media, PEOPLE, Poetry, quotations, Translations

Just a little more
Giorgos SEFERIS (1900 – 1971)

Just a little more
And we shall see the almond trees in blossom
The marbles shining in the sun
The sea, the curling waves.
Just a little more
Let us rise just a little higher.

Un pic mai mult
Giorgos SEFERIS (1900 – 1971)

Un pic mai mult
Şi o să vedem pomii înfloriţi,
Marmura sclipind în soare,
Marea şi valurile spumegând.
Un pic mai mult
Lăsaţi-ne să ne ridicăm puţin mai sus.
